The health benefits of Turmeric are becoming more commonly discovered and discussed. You probably know it best as the spice that adds the orange color to curries. A relative of ginger, Turmeric is totally underated little root! It has strong anti-inflammatory, infection fighting and cancer preventing properties. It's main active ingredient curcumin has been known to relieve pain and improve mood, heartburn, liver function, cholesterol levels and arthritis. It is also a used to help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

So, how can you reap the benefits of this fantastic food? Turmeric is great for cooking, however you have to eat it very frequently for a significant health impact. A popular way to ingest turmeric is to juice it and the easiest way is to take a high quality turmeric supplement. I have recently discovered how delicious it can be added to a smoothie with the right blends! Here's my current favorite...

Turmeric Mango Smoothie

Blend the following ingredients on high:
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh mango
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1.5 cups almond or coconut milk
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp white chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (or 1 tsp of fresh, grated)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger (optional...gives added flavor zing!)
Both turmeric and ginger have warming effects on the body so they can help balance the raw fruits and vegetables. In the Winter months this is especially important to prevent dampness in the body, keep your immune system strong, your body temperature stable and your mind grounded. Drinking smoothies at a warmer temperature is also a good idea.

This is just one of many delicious and healthy recipes that are included in my Fall Reset Cleanse starting October 24th. There is still time to join!

Well wishes,
Christy
