Are you considering experiencing my 5-Day Cleanse either individually or part of a group? I’m always happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have! Here are a list of the most common questions I get asked about my seasonal cleanses:
1. I’m worried I’ll be hungry during the cleanse? Will I be?
Starvation/deprivation is not the goal of the cleanse. Most of my cleansers experience the opposite. Since you are eating such nutrient dense foods and multiple small meals throughout the day, cleansers report feeling full and satisfied. Since each individual is different, I always recommend that if you are truly still hungry, to eat more and increase your portion sizes as needed. I also offer ideas for healthy snacks to have on hand in case your find yourself hungry between meals. You will be eating real whole foods on this cleanse, it is not a liquid diet or a fast.
2. Why is the cleanse vegan?
The main reason I chose to design a vegan cleanse was to remove many of the foods that are known to cause inflammation in the body such as meat, dairy, gluten and refined sugar. This lighter and clean way of eating gives your digestive system a break and promotes a healthy gut. Plant-based protein sources are included in the cleanse menu, however if you decide you cannot go a full 5 days without meat or dairy, I can help you adapt the cleanse to include small amounts of quality animal protein. This is your experience and it can be adapted to meet your needs!
3. Do I have to give up coffee?
This is a personal choice. Ideally, the cleanse is caffeine-free. However, I never recommend an avid coffee drinker to give it up caffeine “cold turkey” for the cleanse. You may decide to try cutting back on your usual daily intake by only having coffee in the morning and switching to herbal tea in the afternoon. I recommend switching to a decaf variety or green tea which generally contains less caffeine, but the most important thing is to stay hydrated.
4. I don’t have a juicer. Can I still experience the cleanse?
Yes, if you do not have a juicer or are not interested in including juices in your cleanse, you can still participate and experience benefits of the cleanse. In place of juicing, I recommend sticking to the blended smoothies. I explain the purpose of juicing in the cleanse materials and give you options and ultimately leave the decision up to you. I can also make recommendations if you would like to purchase quality fresh-pressed juices instead of making them yourself.
5. What is the purpose of the suggested supplements and do I have to take them?
The suggested supplements are completely optional. I have hand selected supplements that will help enhance your cleanse experience by supporting digestion, improving energy and detoxifying your body. All are natural and gentle. I recommend options and brands, however, I do not sell the supplements myself. You make this personal choice as to which supplements to include (if any) based on the information I provide.
6. How much time will it take me to prep for the cleanse?
You will receive the cleanse materials a week in advance so you have plenty of time to review and prep. I do recommend carving out some extra time to solidify your meal plan based on the options I provide and make sure you have all the ingredients you need for the week. My most successful cleansers take some time to prep some initial meals in advance over the weekend so they can relax and enjoy the experience more throughout the week.
7. How should I expect to spend on food/ingredients for the cleanse?
Food-wise, you will likely not spend any more than you would on a regular week of groceries. Any optional supplements you choose to include may be extra.
8. I’m not sure if I can go a full 5 days without meat or dairy or I am a picky eater. How flexible is the cleanse?
I have outlined comprehensive guidelines for the cleanse plan including various recipe options for each category to satisfy your personal palate! The recipes can be adapted based on your tastes and preferences if needed and I’m always available to answer questions you may have. If you decide you cannot go a full 5 days without meat or dairy, I can help you adapt the cleanse to include small amounts of quality animal protein. This is your experience and it can be slightly altered to meet your needs! Ultimately this cleanse is about dedicating a week to healthy eating habits and self-care.
9. Where should I shop for my cleanse items?
You should be able to find all of the ingredients for my recipes at any grocery store. If you choose to add the optional supplements, you can find them at natural grocers such as Whole Foods or online (Amazon, Vitacost, Thrive Market, etc) I will provide links in the cleanse materials if you would like to order them.
10. Do I have to prepare all the meals myself or can I buy prepared meals?
I find that my cleansers get the most out of the experience when they prepare their own meals since they often find new healthy recipes they love and will continue to make them in the future. However, if time or kitchen space is an issue, you can certainly buy prepared meals that fit the cleanse guidelines. Depending on your location, I can make suggestions for good options.
11. What benefits may I experience from the cleanse?
Benefits that my cleansers often report are increased energy, improved digestion (less bloat and more regularity), weight loss, reduced cravings, mental clarity, relief from joint pain and headaches and motivation to move forward with healthier eating and lifestyle habits and more mindfulness.
12. Are there any possible negative side effects?
In some cases, cleansing can cause side effects of detoxing such as a headache, indigestion or tiredness. These are usually mild and only last a day or two. I offer options for helping alleviate these symptoms and am available to support you through any questions or concerns during your cleanse.
